The Daikiretto

Two men at the beacon of Helvellyn
Pressing my hands on the rock face, I made my way, step by step, along the mountains ridge. I spread my arms and look out over the lakes, the valleys and meandering rivers, and I realise I am free.

A Conversation and a Country in Tension

Two men in conversation, surrounded by trinkets of silver and gold.
I stop and sip at my karak tea, thick with cardamom, and look out through the foliage of houses; tall and short, instances of rubble, creamy white stone impregnated with the smell of frankincense that whispers in the air from the night before.

Hikers and a backdrop of mountains
Mountains like swords, stood proudly above green hills, planted in giant mounds of grey shale. The calls of marmots echoing over placid shrubbery, lush forests dressing hilltops and cabins nestled between trees.

Trekking between Rifugios in the Dolomites

A navigation post on the Kumano Kodo route
Amongst trees and rivers, rain and fog, the mountains and their temples became my home. My breath left my lips and joined the wind, my voice ran through the forest and braided amongst bird call and the chatter of rustled leaves.

The ridgeline of a Mountain, covered in snow
My will a flake of snow amidst a million, my breath a whisp in the gales that tear against me.
